“Out of this world” is how children described KidsFest’s annual Holiday Celebration at the Empire Theatres on December 5th. Gathered at two locations, in Edmonton and Toronto, 600 Running & Reading Club participants and many dedicated volunteers enjoyed an exclusive viewing of Planet 51 with popcorn, games, prizes, and all the trimmings of a holiday party. For many of the Grade 1-6 students in our after school educational program, this event marked their first visit to a movie theatre. Several partners of KidsFest joined together to make this event extraordinary for some of our nation’s most vulnerable children. McDonald’s in Toronto, as well as Panago and Coliseum Pizza & Steak in Edmonton, provided delicious lunches for the event. Grand & Toy employees and RCMP officers lent helping hands, and treats donated by Hershey’s and Chudleigh’s made for a sweet ending to a fun-filled and special day for the young guests. Thanks to our many committed volunteers and generous sponsors, unforgettable memories were formed for children in need, giving them hope and encouragement to last beyond the holiday season.
